Come Home

January 6, 2014

17“But when he came to himself, he said, 20And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘bringout the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. (Luke 15:17, 22-24)

In today lesson, the younger son wanted everything coming to him. He was tired of working on the farm. He wanted to go abroad, to see the world and do things he could not do on the farm.  “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. This young son recalled what had been instilled in him.  After the parties were over, his money was gone, friends had put him down; he remembered how good it was at his father house.

I grew up on a farm and had the same experience of not being in the bright lights, partying all night, not having a curfew and doing my own thing. I grew up in the church but thought it was uncool to be a Christian.  I put God on the back burner while I did my own thing.  I am so happy God did not put His grace and protection on the back burner while I was running astray? Where would I be if He withheld His mercy and protection? If you find yourself to be a prodigal son or daughter, come on home. Jesus is still waiting for you to come home. Heaven will rejoice over you coming home. What is keeping you from coming home? 2014 is a great year to come home. If Jesus came back in 2014, will you be ready? Don’t play too long! If you gain the whole world and lost your soul, what would you profit? There’s nothing in the streets except trouble and AIDS.

Jesus is a great father and a great Shepherd. A father is a very special person.  A father will give his last; put his family need ahead of his needs.  A father will do without, so his family can have.  A father will work outside in all type of weather to feed his family and keep a roof over their heads.   A real father does not need to be recognized. The only recognition they seek is to see smiles on their family faces. There is a difference between a “daddy and a father”.

One day, I was a prodigal son. I was lost, but thank God, I am found. I was blind, but now, I see. He saved a wretch like me. I asked God to forgive me of my sins and I am coming home.  I was a way wed child. I was beaten down, raggy, filled with sins and I called on the name of Jesus and He saved me, forgave me of my sins, cleansed me and renewed a right Spirit within me. Heaven rejoiced over my repentance. I am coming home.  I am going over there where Jesus lives. Just a few more rising and setting of the sun and I am on my way.  Over there, there won’t be any more pains, tears, heart-aches, disappointments, no darkness, because His face will give off light.  When we get there, we will see our parents, our love ones and He will wipe away all tears from our eyes. Will you come home today????
