I Remember

October 27, 2014

I remember when students at school had morning prayers, recited the Pledge of Allegiances, pocket size New Testaments was passed out and teachers were allowed to discipline children. There were no shooting up the schools.

Growing up in the sixties, racism was in it prime but most people were cordially. It probably happened but I can’t recall officers shooting African Americans down in broad open daylight. This Country has been involved in the Civil War, World War I and II, Viet-Nam and the Gulf War. We have had our share of wars. Why do we still have to fight wars in the State-side?

God have brought us out of the murky clay and placed our feet upon solid ground. God has blessed us with better jobs, homes, automobiles but many people still refuse to acknowledge God or go to the House of Worship. Years later, we have become a selfish and evil generation. We are more educated and civilized, but we are killing each other. Officers are allowed to shoot African Americans for a thrill and nobody from the White House to the Church House are not doing anything about it. Many people have CEO, Manager, President, Vice-President, Senator, Governor, Mayor, Sheriff, Chief attached to their names. We are going backward and not forward. It appears, more black males are dying under the leadership of African Americans rather than the Caucasian leadership. In Atlanta, it appears the mayor is more concerned about bringing a rail system or having a giant Ferris wheel installed, building new football and baseball stadiums to keep the Falcons and Braves in Atlanta. There are hundreds of people unemployed, sick, needy, homeless or being killed by officers but our leaders are more about enhancing their resumes. Are we doing all we can to help someone? If we stood before God today and He said unto us: “when I was hungry, you gave me no food. When I was naked, you gave me no clothes. When I was sick, you didn’t do anything to help me”. What would our answer be?

God is speaking to us through His Words and signs. Diseases are spreading like wild fire. I remember when people cared for one another, prayed for one another, watched over their neighbor children and disciplined their neighbor children. I heard one speaker say “the church is the only army that leaves its wounded soldiers behind”. Are we reaching out to the lost or the one’s gone astray? Why should we impose the citizens with a tax burden to place body cameras on officers? Officers are expected to do the right thing and the system should hold them accountable and prosecute the wrong and evil-doers. Are we going to force citizens to buy body cameras for their own protection? We expect citizens to do the right thing. Officers should be held to the same standard.

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.  But I have prayed for you; that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:31-32)

Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.  But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.  And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?  There is no partiality with God. (Romans 2:1-3, 11)

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matt. 4:17

‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice. “For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matt. 9:13)

It’s time we start preaching, teaching and standing on the word of God. We have been hiding on our jobs, behind our computer monitors, titles, status, the four walls of the church building, televisions and worrying about offending people or groups. We are allowing all sorts of laws to be passed and allowed to enemy to sift us as wheat. God have promised us “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
