Thankful

November 24, 2014

As we go into the Thanksgiving Holidays, people are preparing their guest lists, cleaning their homes, preparing their menus and making plans.

How many people have taken time out of their busy schedule to “thank God” for what He has doing, is doing and going to do? While we are sitting at our tables deciding on what we are going to eat, think about how happy a homeless or hungry person would be to have food.

We don’t have to wait until November to celebrate Thanksgiving. Every day is a day of thanksgiving. God blesses us to see a new day, clothed in our right mind, health and strength, a home and His grace and mercy is new every day. If you have a bologna sandwich, you are still blessed. If you have God and a bologna sandwich, you have more than enough. Health, clothed in your right mind, His grace and mercy is more of His precious gifts; not purchased with money but the blood of Christ.

If God healed your body, opened doors for you, kept your enemies at bay and held death back is blessings and reasons to be thankful. We may not always eat what we like, but we are thankful for the food He has provided. When I didn’t know how I was going to make it, God made a way out of no way. When I was dead in sins, He blew life into my body, forgave my sins and saved a wretch like me. If God never did anything else for me, He did enough. I am thankful for a health family. Over the year, I am thankful that I was not a patient in a hospital bed or watch a love one fighting for life in a hospital room. I am thankful that I never had to make the trip to a funeral home to plan the funeral of a love one, nor stand over a gravesite and watch a love one be lowered into the ground.

As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”  When he saw them, he said, “Go, and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.  He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? (Luke 17:14-17)

If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. (1 Timothy 6:8)

After God has delivered you, healed your bodies, saved your soul and provided for you; have you returned to say “thank You”? Are you the one that returned?

Prayer: Father, God we return to You today to say “thank You”. We don’t come asking for anything but to say thank You. Father, we have learned to be content in whatever situation we find ourselves. When we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we shall fear no evil; for we know that You are with us always. Be a Stronghold in the day of trouble. Grant us strength, where we are weak. Father, we can’t number or name all the blessings that You have bestowed upon us. For all the times we got busy with our schedules and didn’t take time out to say thank You, we return today to say “thank You”. If it had not been for You on our side, where would we be? Thank you for family, health, homes, jobs, food, forgiveness of sins and the opportunity to live with You forever. Father, we thank You for your grace, mercy, love and compassionate. Thank You for taking our place on the cross and thank You for life but life more abountiful. From the depth of our hearts we are thankful and grateful. If we had a thousand tongues, we couldn’t say “thank You” enough. Father, because of who You are, we say “thank You” in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen and Amen
