Christians Activated

May 4, 2015

When Jesus was crucified, His disciples went into hiding in fear of the Jews. Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19)

With all these marches against violence and injustice taking place, the churches are being silent. We should be leading and speaking against evil and wrong-doing.  We have been hiding behind the four (4) walls, accepting anything and everything and been silent for too long. Basic training is over and we have been activated to the battlefield.  In the trenches, we have an opportunity to win souls. The looting and the burning of buildings are wrong. People are expressing their frustration in the many officer shootings and the disappointment in the justice system by giving officers free passes. We need to hold officers, Mayors, Governors, Chiefs, Attorney General responsible for the actions of their officers. We can no longer hope the shootings will go away. God has no respect of person and “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”. (Romans 6:23)

The church should serve as a ‘light-house’ to lost souls, those hurting and injustice of “wicked powers in high places”.  We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12) God did not give us a Spirit of fear but boldness.  God has activated us and sent us onto the battlefield and promised to deliver us. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,  to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ (Acts 26:17-18) When God has clothed us with the whole armor or God, nothing can harm us.  Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. (Luke 10:19) Dr. M.L. King was one voice crying in the wilderness for equality. John the Baptist was one voice crying in the wilderness, where many were baptized.   If we are going to be a witness for Christ, we have to carry the Word into the wilderness of marches, injustice and the highways, preaching “repent and make straight the way of the Lord” (John 1:23b) One strike of a single match can burn the entire Country down.  On voice in the wilderness of this ‘sin sick’ world can turn darkness into light, evil into love, unforgiveness into forgiveness if we lift Him up. Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness; even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. (John 3:14)  When we lift Jesus up from the earth, He will draw all men to Him.” (John 12:32)

Christians and Spiritual leaders (talking about myself first) have been asleep too long. Story-time is over. We need to get back to the truth and God word will cut deeper than a two-edge sword.  When salvation and repentance is being preached and taught will result in the deaf hearing, the blind eyes are open and the hard-hearted would repent. We as leaders cannot expect Christians to move forward as long as we (leaders) are retreating. We have to be on the frontline to lead soldiers into battle and not just command them from the rear. We have to be shepherds and not hirelings. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.  But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.  The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep”. (John 10:11-13) Are we shepherds or hirelings?

Every time I hear or read of another person killed by officers, makes me question: Did I miss an opportunity to spread the gospel?  How long will God allow these shootings to continue? Besides praying, what am I doing to change the situation? Instead of preaching to the saved, we need to be focusing on the unsaved. “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Mark 2:17)  “If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward”. (1 Corinthians 3:14) There is still hope for this sin sick world. God is saying ‘it is a possibility’ with conditions: if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Prayer: Father, we come to You as a voice in the wilderness. We realize that You have all power in Your hands. We confess our sins before You, repent and lift You up from the earth and ask You to draw people to You. We realize that we are only sowers on this earth. We ask You to bless the seeds that are sown in faith. We ask You to give increase to the seeds and there will be a harvest. We realize that we can do nothing on our own, but we can do all things through You. Father, the harvest is plentiful but the labors are few. Please send labors into the vineyard.  We thank You for Your amazing grace that saved a wretch like me. Thank You for one day I was lost, but now, I am found. I was blind, but now, I can see. Father in this cruel and evil world, we ask You to never leave us but to stand by us. We give You the honor, glory and praises for Your Amazing Grace and love, in Jesus name. Amen
