What Are You Hiding Behind?

May 25, 2015

It appears people are hiding behind something. Some people carry the Bible around in their hands or automobiles to appear righteous but never take time to read or study it; their actions differ from their words. “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.  I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’  And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Luke 18:10-14)

Many officers hide behind guns, badges and the Justice System.  Citizens are convicted for the same crimes officers are allowed to walk away from. The same law officers are writing tickets for are the same law they are breaking. Some elected officials are standing behind popularity and acceptance. Many elected leaders are sitting back and allow officers to slaughter young black men at liberty. It appears, it is more convenient for officers to shoot citizens rather than arresting them and doing the paper work.  After officers have finished killing all the ‘common black men’ the only black men left standing; is the sons of elected officials. Then, the elected officials will change the law. Would the law be changed if black officers were slaughtering Caucasian young men?

Some people stand behind race. They say; “I am not prejudice” but watch their actions. The Apostle Paul warns us to Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation”! (Philippians 3:2) Some people say “I am a Christian and love God, but their actions speak different languages against other races. If a man says, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? (1 John 4:20) People will use the red, white and blue colors of the American flag to render their injustice. The confederate flag also bear red, white and blue colors. The confederate flag was also carried by the kkk and other hate groups as a symbol of hate or supremacy.  In many states, the confederate flag tag is placed on State, County and City police cruisers.  In court-rooms around the Country, injustices have been carried out inside the court-room while the American flag was flying above on the outside. Many officers have the American flag emblem on their uniforms; yet shoot black American citizens down in the streets without hesitation or regard for another human life.

As for me, I want to stand behind the cross. That way, I will always remember the sacrifice paid for my sins. The cross also re-assures me that I will be persecuted, mocked and talked about for living a Christian life in a sinful world. The cross also gives me assurance that as God raised Jesus, He will do the same for me. “Jesus, keep me near the Cross”.

Prayers: Father, we stretch our hands to Thee, no other help we know. If You withdrew Yourself from us, where shall we go? Father, we need You to touch and change hearts in this evil world. We ask You to draw men unto You. We ask You to touch the hearts of the evil officers. Bless them to realize before they pull triggers that this black man in one of Your creatures, somebody father, brother, son, uncle or grand-father. We ask You to enter into the hearts of the elected officials that they will do the right things and support right over wrong. Father, we thank You for the time You have allowed us to repent. We ask You to create in us a clean heart and renew a right Spirit in us. Blot out all our transgressions and forgive us our sins. Amen
