Turn and Live

July 27, 2015

Jets and ships are large vessels. During rough seas or thunderstorms, the pilots or captains are directed to change courses or altitude to avoid danger.

In life, we are directed to change course or altitude. Many times, God bless us and we forget where our blessings came from. When we begin flying too high, God will bring us back down. We want to take God glory and make it our own; by saying ‘look at the company I built, the mansion I bought, my title or even the large congregation I have’. We forget it was God that blessed us with health and strength, it is God that adds to the church daily, equipped us with knowledge to build a business or where our promotion came from. “For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one and exalts another”. (Psalms 75:6-7)

Many have chosen to travel the broad road rather than the narrow path. People have been warned by the Word of God to change course or face danger ahead. Christ disciples feared they would perish in the storm while their boat was tossed to and fro by the boasting winds and chopping sea. Jesus spoke three words: “peace be still”. “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm”. (Mark 4: 39) Jesus is still the same Savior today. If only we had faith the size of a mustard seed.

When storms are forming and raging in our lives, Christ is there to calm the storms. We may have to ride out many storms, but we are not alone. The same Jesus that calmed the storm of the disciples is able to calm the storms in our lives. In our storms, we may suffer damages but not one soul shall be lost. In the Apostle Paul voyage and shipwreck, he received the same warning: And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.” (Acts 27: 22, 34)) During the storm, God is there to lay us down in green pasture and leads us beside the still waters, while restoring our souls. What a Friend we have in Jesus because “He is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy”, (Jude 1:24)

Prayer: Father we thank You for being our Friend. Thank You for laying us down in green pastures and restoring our souls. Thank you for being a Protector and keep us from falling. When we are going through the storms of life, we ask You to stand by us and calm our storms. As we sow seeds, we ask You to honor and water these seeds that there will be a great harvest. Pour out Your word into the hearts of sinners that they will repent, and turn from their wicked ways. We give You the honor and glory. Amen
