Spirit or Flesh

October 13, 2015

The flesh is filled with sin. We can’t please God in the flesh. In regeneration, the flesh is not born again but the Spirit is regenerated. When we are born again, the flesh will still possess the same features but the Spirit will be changed. We are a new creature in Christ. The old man has died and behold; all things become new.

In Paul’s teachings, those that worship Christ must worship Him in Spirit and truth. For this reason, flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. This corruptible flesh must die so we can be raised incorruptible. The flesh is sown in weakness but raised in power. There’s always a war going on between the flesh and the Spirit. “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish”. “ Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God”. (Galatians 5:16-17, 19-21)

The Spirit bears good fruits.  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such there is no law.  And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another”. (Galatians 5:22-26)
