We Need Thee

October 20, 2015

During a recent conversation with a local police officer he commented “I don’t know why people are shooting police officers and show little or no respect for the badge?” As I considered his question, I felt compelled to explain my point of view since he asked.  Respect is earned and cannot and in most case should not be automatically assumed because a person has been issued a uniform, a weapon and a badge.  This is not only true of the Police profession but it is life in general.  Respect MUST be earned. If officers respected citizens, the citizens will respect officers.  I enjoy watching “Andy Griffith or Heat of the Night”, the old television series where officers respected people.  I understand that these are nothing more than television; however there was a time when officers treated people with courtesy and respect.  There was a time when the motto “to protect and to serve carried real value and meaning.  Citizens were not afraid to approach a local law enforcement officer with their concerns.  The badge and the uniform give the impression of safety.  We did not see citizens being brutalized by officers.  Officers would make arrests and the suspects are held for trial.  In my opinion, there seems to be a correlation to this trend when “Cops” was aired on television. There seemed to be a need for officers to prove their toughness.

When we read in the Bible, we need to believe what we read. There’s nothing under the sun that surprise me anymore. Why do officers think they should be exempt from the laws of God? God have said “Thou shalt not kill (Exodus 20:3). God have no respect of person (Romans 2:11). If we live by the sword; we will die by the sword (Matthew 26:52). Everyone will reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7)”. When grand juries and man laws fail to do the right thing, God laws are activated. These workers of iniquity will be cut down like the grass and will not be able to rise up against us again. (Psalms 37:1-2)

Many times, we do wrong for so long until it appears right. . When the wheel of justice does not convict us right away, we think we have gotten away with it; we endeavor to continue in our wrongdoings. When it’s time for us to sow, we refuse to understand “why me and why now”? Every life matters whether wearing a badge or wearing “the black skin uniform”. Citizens and officers have family members at home awaiting the safe return of their love one. In these last days, we are living in perilous times. Citizens and officers fear for their lives. The Justice System, Attorney General, District Attorney, Chiefs, Sheriffs, hirelings or other officers are not going against officers wrong doings. Citizens have to stay prayed up and look unto the hills from whence cometh all our help.  Man born of a woman is of a few days (Job 14:1). How long will God continue to allow these wrong-doing to take place? “How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked”? (Psalms 82:2)

There is a huge distrust and disconnect between citizens and officers. God is saying Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool”. (Isaiah 1:18) If officers and citizens will hearken to the voice of God, keep His Commandments, love the Lord with all their hearts, love thy neighbor as thyself, humble themselves, pray, seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, God will turn these killings around. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Prayer: Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus. We come asking Your protection and guidance. We need Thee every hour and every minute as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death. We ask You to replace fear with love, distrust with trust and evil with kindness. Bless officers to reach for love instead of guns. Touch hearts right now and break every chain of hatred, fear and confusion. We thank You for hearing and answering our prayers. Amen
