The Gift

December 21, 2015

While caught up in the emotions of Christmas carols, decorations and lights; let’s us not side tracked of the reason we are celebrating this season. While running from mall to mall searching for the perfect gifts, it was God that carried and brought us safe. The best Gift we could give to our love ones can’t be purchased from Macy, Walmart or the Dollar Tree. Before any of us was born, God sent His best gift to the world. God in His infinite wisdom knew we would need this Gift to carry us from earth to Heaven. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace”. (Isaiah 9:6)

While decorating our trees with fancy ornaments, remember the cross was made from a tree. Jesus tree did not have fancy decorations but three spikes, a spear, nine hours of suffering and a crown of thorns placed upon His head. Instead of a star on top of the tree, they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS”. While looking under a tree for a gift, let remember our salvation, forgiveness of sins and eternal life was paid in FULL with wood from a tree. Jesus was nailed to the cross hewed from a tree.  There were no beautiful wrapped gifts but soldiers marching and mocking Him. Jesus did not come into the world wrapped in a perfect box, but wrapped in swaddle clothes; He is the perfect Gift without spots or blemishes. Some gifts are received with happiness while others are met with disappointments. Are you happy Jesus did not come to the earth to condemn it but to save sinners? He is the Gift that keeps on giving, day after day and year after year. God summon up His love for us and condensed it into one verse For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. (John 3:16) When we have turned off the Christmas lights, there’s a bright Light of Jesus Christ that keeps on shinning throughout the year. Jesus brings the Gift to the door of our hearts. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me”. (Revelation 3:20)

Many of our small children and grandchildren still believe in the “fat man called Santa” that comes around once a year. Don’t fail to tell our children or grandchildren about the Savior that is with us every day. “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Luke 20:25) While making plans to celebrate Christmas, what plans have we made for eternal life? If we don’t wake up Christmas morning, will it be alright? In times like these, death and evil are all around us on every side. Life is so uncertain but we know that deaths are certain. One day, we all will have to press a dying pillow and stand before a Righteous Judge. May this Christmas and all your days be blessed and the Light of Jesus will shine in each of us long after the Christmas lights have been taken down and put away for another year.

Prayer: Father, we stretch our hands to Thee, no other help we know. Father, we ask that Your birth will be our focus and not about material things. We know that You are the reason for this season. We lift You up and ask You to draw men unto You. If there are any lost among us, we ask You to draw them out and call them by name. We pray that You will enter their hearts and give them the joy of Christmas throughout the year. Help us not to make this season about self but more about You. As we decrease, we ask You to increase in our lives and people will see the Jesus in us. We give You the honor and glory. We give You thanks for the birth of Your Son and for sending You Son to die on a cross for our sins. Father, we thank You for raising Jesus back up on the third day. We know that You will not leave us in the grave but You will raise us back up. Thank You for making a way for us to be reconciled back to You. Our hearts and souls cry out to say thank You and Happy Birthday. We ask all this in Thy Son Jesus name. Amen
