A Strong Finish

December 28, 2015

As we come to the close of another year, God has been good to us. The year of 2015 may have taken a love-one, a job, home, automobile or our health. Many times, this thing called “life” knocks us down, turn us upside down and sift us as wheat. This is not the time to panic or lose our faith in God. This is the time we draw near to Thee.

Life has a way of knocking us down. With God help, we can get back us, brush ourselves off and go on in the name of the Lord. David reminds us “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning”. (Psalms 30:5) The Scriptures warns us that We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed”. (2 Corinthians 4:8-9) God will never forsake us. He will give us strength when we become weak. Don’t be so quick to panic or give up.

The Apostle Paul was ready to be poured out as a drink offering. Paul was confident that he had stayed in the fight, finished the race and did not quit or give up. Paul was confident that his faith and the grace of God would grant him the crown of righteousness. Don’t carry the weights of 2015 into 2016. As 2016 approaches, let us press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”. (Philippians 3:14)

When I look back over 2015, my heart has known such pains. When I hear of officers shooting and killing unarmed people, throwing a flash-bang grenade into an infant room, prisoners dying in jail cells and grand juries turning their heads to officer’s wrong-doings; really concern me. In my heart, I know that God will hold everyone accountable. “But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.  And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God”? (Romans 2:2-3) Rather than judging people harshly, I now try to look at people actions through the eyes of Jesus. The word of God tells us to let the tares and wheat grow together. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” (Matthew 13:30) If we want to have a strong finish, we have to get out of God way and let God be God by Himself.

We can’t have a strong finish without putting on the whole armor of God. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”. (Ephesians 6:11-13) Jesus came to this earth in the form of flesh to set an example. Jesus went to the cross as a ‘sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened not His mouth unto the slaughter’. Throughout all His beatings, being nailed to the cross, He still asked the Father to forgive them, finished His assignment and kept the faith. Therefore, He went to sit on the right side of God with all powers in His hand.

Prayer: Father, as we run this race, give us the endurance and strength to finish and complete this race. Help us to keep our eyes on the prize. If we should falter, don’t be angry, but let us stand. We know we can’t finish this race without You holding our hand. When we get weak, give us a little more strength. We need Thee every hour of the day. We ask You to take our hand, Precious Lord and lead us home. Amen!!!
