Back to Church

July 5, 2016

People are hungry and they are not looking for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. People need to be fed from heaven with the word of God. We as leaders have been promoting self and serving the people with appetizers and desserts without a main course.

Many people have shared their displeasure and are being turned off by the church always asking for money. People’s experience in the church should be less about money and more about salvation. Yes, I understand the church needs money to operate but as

I watched a television pastor promising the listeners that if they would send in one-thousand dollars (even if they have to borrow it or max out their credit cards) they would be blessed it occurred to me that there was something wrong with the message going out to those seeking Christ. Blessings can not be bought or sold. They can not be purchased at the local department store. And they are certainly not up for bid by the most popular television ministry.

When we return to the biblical principal of salvation; people will recognize the biblical principal of giving. Along with salvation comes the knowledge of Christ and the desire to do what is pleasing to God. 1“We don’t have to chase our blessings because our blessings will find us”. God will always provide for His house. His house shall remain for he declared to Peter “Upon this rock I build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”. (Matthew 16:18)

If a person were to give their entire life savings, and gave grudgingly it would not profit them anything. The word of God in the book of Luke says,“Jesus saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all. For all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” (Luke 21:2-4)

Time is running out and we don’t have time to play with our souls or the souls of people that we have been assigned to minister to. We must go back to telling people that Jesus saves, he forgives and the “wages of sins is death, but the gift of God is eternal life”. (Romans 6:23)

As we continue to hear of large numbers of people being killed, school shootings, officer shootings and grand juries refuse to indict. As we continue to hear of all types of things taking place in the House of Worship and of parents killing their children. We can be sure there is a need for this nation to turn back to God. In all these killings, how many souls entered “eternal rest”? One soul is too many to loose. We must continue teaching, encouraging, praying, lifting Jesus up, preaching repentance and praying for a harvest. Being a church-goer, a good person, singing in the choir, paying tithes, serving on the Deacon Board or serving as a Pastor will not get us into Heaven. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. (Ephesians 2:8-10) Jesus explained to Nicodemus, “you must be born again”. We can’t go to Heaven without some changes taking place from God.

Prayer: Father, we come to You with repentant hearts, asking You to forgive us of all our sins. Thank You for opening our eyes and our hearts to receive Your word. Thank You for making a way for us to be reconciled back to You. Father, we confess You with our mouth and believe in our hearts that God raised You from the dead. We thank You for saving our souls and allowing us to reign with You forever and ever.
